Last year, Japan revised its system of “Important Intangible Cultural Properties” for the first time in half a century, and starting this year, it’s possible that Living National Treasure designation will be awarded to people in areas considered to be a part of “lifestyle culture,” such as tea ceremony, flower arrangement, and the culinary arts.
It’s encouraging to see the country’s cultural “treasures” grow as it values traditional culture and makes efforts to pass on precious skills.
